Siegel (PSU) report on behalf of the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory Team: At 04:52:58 UT, the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) triggered and located GRB 220701A (trigger=1114034). Swift slewed immediately to the burst. The BAT on-board calculated location is RA, Dec 242.478, +55.420 which is RA(J2000) = 16h 09m 55s Dec(J2000) = +55d 25' 14" with an uncertainty of 3 arcmin (radius, 90% containment, including systematic uncertainty). The BAT light curve showed a double-peaked structure with a duration of about 16 sec. The peak count rate was ~1000 counts/sec (15-350 keV), at ~0 sec after the trigger. The XRT began observing the field at 04:56:06.0 UT, 187.9 seconds after the BAT trigger. Using promptly downlinked data we find an uncatalogued X-ray source located at RA, Dec 242.50589, 55.40679 which is equivalent to: RA(J2000) = 16h 10m 01.41s Dec(J2000) = +55d 24' 24.4" with an uncertainty of 4.2 arcseconds (radius, 90% containment). This location is 74 arcseconds from the BAT onboard position, within the BAT error circle. This position may be improved as more data are received; the latest position is available at https://www.swift.ac.uk/sper. We cannot determine whether the source is fading at the present time. A power-law fit to a spectrum formed from promptly downlinked event data gives a column density consistent with the Galactic value of 1.03 x 10^20 cm^-2 (Willingale et al. 2013). UVOT took a finding chart exposure of 150 seconds with the White filter starting 175 seconds after the BAT trigger. No credible afterglow candidate has been found in the initial data products. The 2.7'x2.7' sub-image covers 85% of the XRT error circle. The typical 3-sigma upper limit has been about 19.6 mag. The 8'x8' region for the list of sources generated on-board covers 100% of the XRT error circle. The list of sources is typically complete to about 18 mag. Observations began on July 1, 2022 at 08:01:14 UT in r-band (~3.1 hr after the GRB) for a total exposure of 1000 s at airmass 1.3 and seeing 1.2". Within the XRT enhanced position (Evans et al. GCN 32308) we do not detect a source to depth r > 24.3 AB mag. Magnitudes are calibrated against the SDSS catalog and are not corrected for Galactic extinction. GCNC 32306), the BOOTES-5/JGT 0.6m robotic telescope at Observatorio Astronomico Nacional in San Pedro Martir (Mexico) observed the GRB location starting on Jul 01, 04:55:30 UT (~152 s after trigger). In the early co-added image (20 x 10 s exposures in the clear filter), no optical afterglow is detected within the Swift/XRT error region (Evans et al. GCNC 32306, GCNC 32308) down to 20.4 mag. This non-detection is consistent with those results from KAIT (Zheng et al. GCNC 32307), LDT (O'Connor et al. GCNC 32309) and UVOT (Oates et al. GCNC 32310). Cucchiara (College of Marin) report on behalf of a larger collaboration: We observed the Swift GRB 220701A (Evans et al., GCN 32306) field with the LCO 1-m Sinistro instrument at the Teide Observatory, on Tenerife, on July 1, from 21:07 to 21:34 UT (corresponding to 16.25 to 16.70 hours from the GRB trigger time) with the SDSS r and i filters. We performed a series of 3x300s exposures in r and i bands. We do not detect an optical counterpart within the XRT enhanced error region (Evans et al., GCN 32308) in either band, consistent with other non-detections (O'Connor et al., GCN 32309; Oates et al., GCN 32310; Hu et al., GCN 32311). Evans report on behalf of the Swift-XRT team: We have analysed 6.2 ks of XRT data for GRB 220701A (Evans et al. GCN Circ. 32306), from 178 s to 52.7 ks after the BAT trigger. The data are entirely in Photon Counting (PC) mode. The enhanced XRT position for this burst was given by Evans et al. (GCN Circ. 32308). The light curve can be modelled with a power-law decay with a decay index of alpha=1.03 (+0.15, -0.12). A spectrum formed from the PC mode data can be fitted with an absorbed power-law with a photon spectral index of 2.3 (+0.7, -0.6). The best-fitting absorption column is 1.2 (+0.7, -0.5) x 10^22 cm^-2, in excess of the Galactic value of 1.0 x 10^20 cm^-2 (Willingale et al. 2013). The counts to observed (unabsorbed) 0.3-10 keV flux conversion factor deduced from this spectrum is 4.4 x 10^-11 (1.1 x 10^-10) erg cm^-2 count^-1. A summary of the PC-mode spectrum is thus: Total column: 1.2 (+0.7, -0.5) x 10^22 cm^-2 Galactic foreground: 1.0 x 10^20 cm^-2 Excess significance: 4.0 sigma Photon index: 2.3 (+0.7, -0.6) If the light curve continues to decay with a power-law decay index of 1.03, the count rate at T+24 hours will be 5.6 x 10^-4 count s^-1, corresponding to an observed (unabsorbed) 0.3-10 keV flux of 2.4 x 10^-14 (6.3 x 10^-14) erg cm^-2 s^-1. We performed a series of exposures in the R filter with a total exposure of 3300 s. The weather conditions were partly cloudy during the hours of observation with an average airmass of 2. We detect no new source within the enhanced XRT position error circle (Evans et al., 32308), consistent with other non-detections (Zheng et al. GCN 32307; O'Connor et al. GCN 32309; Oates et al. GCN 32310; Hu et al. GCN 32311; Strausbaugh et al. GCN 32313; Belkin et al. GCN 32317) and report the following 5-sigma upper limit: T_mid ||Exposure ||Filter ||Limit T+ 1.5 hrs ||3300s ||R ||>19.8 The limit is estimated from comparison to nearby USNO B1 stars and is not corrected for Galactic extinction. Stamatikos (OSU)(i.e. the Swift-BAT team): Using the data set from T-239 to T+963 sec from the recent telemetry downlink, we report further analysis of BAT GRB 220701A (trigger #1114034) (Evans, et al., GCN Circ. 32306). The BAT ground-calculated position is RA, Dec = 242.474, 55.436 deg which is RA(J2000) = 16h 09m 53.7s Dec(J2000) = +55d 26' 08.9" with an uncertainty of 2.5 arcmin, (radius, sys+stat, 90% containment). The partial coding was 56%. The BAT mask-weighted light curve shows a fairly weak peak extending from Roughly T-2 to T+8 seconds. T90 (15-350 keV) is 5.77 +- 1.13 sec (estimated error including systematics). The time-averaged spectrum from T-1.40 to T+4.83 sec is best fit by a simple power-law model. The power law index of the time-averaged spectrum is 1.37 +- 0.34. The fluence in the 15-150 keV band is 1.8 +- 0.4 x 10^-7 erg/cm2. The 1-sec peak photon flux measured from T+3.65 sec in the 15-150 keV band is 0.7 +- 0.2 ph/cm2/sec. All the quoted errors are at the 90% confidence level.
