//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// TITLE: GCN CIRCULAR NUMBER: 8677 SUBJECT: IPN localization of short hard GRB 081216 DATE: 08/12/17 16:39:34 GMT FROM: Valentin Pal'shin at Ioffe Inst S. Golenetskii, R. Aptekar, E. Mazets, V. Pal'shin, D. Frederiks, T. Cline on behalf of the Konus-Wind team, K. Yamaoka, M. Ohno, Y. Fukazawa, T. Takahashi, M. Tashiro, Y. Terada, T. Murakami, and K. Makishima on behalf of the Suzaku-WAM team, A. von Kienlin, G. Lichti, and A. Rau, and K. Hurley on behalf of the INTEGRAL SPI-ACS GRB team, report: Suzaku-WAM, INTEGRAL-SPI-ACS, and Konus-Wind observed the short-duration hard spectrum GRB 081216 at about 12:44:00 UT (corresponds to the Fermi/GBM trigger 251124240). The burst light curve shows a single pulse with a duration of ~0.2 sec. We have triangulated it to the following, 3-sigma error box: ----------------------------------------------- RA(2000), deg Dec(2000), deg ----------------------------------------------- Center: 130.205 (08h 40m 49s) +11.816 (+11d 48' 57") Corners: 129.100 (08h 36m 24s) + 8.470 (+08d 28' 11") 129.552 (08h 38m 12s) + 8.548 (+08d 32' 53") 131.144 (08h 44m 35s) +15.131 (+15d 07' 52") 130.699 (08h 42m 48s) +15.056 (+15d 03' 20") ----------------------------------------------- The error box area is 2.762 sq. deg. Analysis of the Konus-Wind data yields a burst fluence of ~5x10^-6 erg/cm2 (in the 20 keV - 7 MeV range), and an Epeak of the time-integrated spectrum of ~1.5 MeV. Since the incident angle on the K-W detector was >90 deg, a detailed reliable spectral analysis of the K-W data can not be performed. The results of spectral analysis of the Suzaku-WAM data will be reported later. The on-ground calculated location, using the GBM trigger data, is RA = 123.2, DEC = +13.7 (J2000 degrees, equivalent to 08 h 13 m, +13 d 42'), with an uncertainty of 7 degrees (radius, 1-sigma containment, statistical only; there is additionally a systematic error which is currently estimated to be 2 to 3 degrees). The angle from the Fermi LAT boresight is 95 degrees. This burst was also independently detected by Suzaku-WAM, INTEGRAL-SPI-ACS, and Konus-Wind (Golenetskii et al., GCN 8677) and the GBM localisation is consistent with the IPN localisation. This short, hard burst consists of 2 pulses with a duration (T90) of about 0.96 s (10-1000 keV). The second and main pulse starts at T0+0.5 s and was detected by Golenetskii et al. The time-averaged spectrum from T0-0.13 s to T0+0.83 s is adequately fit by a Band function with Epeak = 1235 +/- 264 keV, alpha = -0.70 +/-0.09, and beta = -2.17+/-0.21 (chi squared 358 for 356 d.o.f.). The event fluence (10-1000 keV) in this time interval is (3.6 +/- 0.1)E-06 erg/cm^2. The 32 ms peak photon flux measured from T0+0.62 s in the 10-1000 keV band is 55 +/- 3 ph/s/cm^2. The spectral analysis results presented above are preliminary; final results will be published in the GBM GRB Catalog." //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// TITLE: GCN CIRCULAR NUMBER: 8681 SUBJECT: GRB 081216: Suzaku WAM observation of the prompt emission DATE: 08/12/18 18:26:18 GMT FROM: Kazutaka Yamaoka at Aoyama Gakuin U A. Sonoda, M. Yamauchi, H. Tanaka, R. Hara, N. Ohmori, K. Kono, H. Hayashi (Univ. of Miyazaki), S. Hong (Nihon U.), on behalf of the Suzaku WAM team, report: The IPN-localized short hard GRB 081216 (Golenetskii et al., GCN 8677; Fermi/GBM trigger #251124240; McBreen et al., GCN 8680) triggered the Suzaku Wide-band All-sky Monitor (WAM) which covers an energy range of 50 keV - 5 MeV at 12:44:00.303 UT (=T0). The observed light curve shows a single peak starting at T0+0.2s, ending at T0+0.4s with a duration (T90) of about 0.2 seconds. The fluence in 100 - 1000 keV was (2.0 +/- 0.2) x 10^-6 erg/cm^2. The 1-s peak flux measured from T0 s was 3.7 (+0.2, -0.4) photons/cm^2/s in the same energy range. Preliminary result shows that the time-averaged spectrum from T0 s to T0+0.5 s is well fitted by a power-law with exponential cutoff model: dN/dE ~ E^{-alpha} * exp(-(2-alpha)*E/Epeak) with alpha = 0.51 (+0.24, -0.28), and Epeak = 1090 (+203, -167) keV (chi^2/d.o.f. = 26.5/24). All the quoted errors are at statistical 90% confidence level, in which the systematic uncertainties are not included.
