GCN KONUS Light Curves

This table contains information about GRBs (and non-GRBs) detected by KONUS-Wind.
The most recent Notice is listed first (reverse time order).

The 2 left-most columns are:
      the Date (yyyymmdd) and the Time (hh:mm:ss.sss)
      of the start of the Transient event (ie the on-board Trigger Time).

The next 3 columns (Det Event Trig#) are:
      the DectorNumber (Det: 1 or 2),
      the type of trigger (Event), and
      the trigger number (Trig#).
These are not produced automatically, but rather are supplied by human analysis (Sergei Golenetskii (Ioffe Institute) at ~T+1-3 weeks).

The next 4 columns are the graphical represenations of the lightcurve (in 4 different formats):
Postscript, GIF, JPEG, and 2 text formats.
The first text file (Text) format has 2 header lines (line1= GRB date, line2= hh:mm:sec.sss) and then 1552 lines of Time,Cnt_rate pairs.
The second text file (Text2) format has 4 header lines (line1= KONUS1or2 detector number, date ,time, and a comment, line2= keV range, line3= average background value, line4= comment) and then the same 1552 lines of Time,Cnt_rate pairs.
For both files, the time sampling is 64 msec, and runs from T-0.512 sec to T+98.752 sec.
The bandpass is 50-200 keV.
The KONUS_1 detector views the southern ecliptic hemisphere, and KONUS_2 views the northern ecliptic hemisphere.

The telemetry data from KONUS is available 1-25 hours after the trigger time. Automated software within the GCN system captures these daily dumps, scans for triggers, extracts the rate information, and produces the light curves.

There is no immediate identification of the trigger type for the most recent events. Most light curves are for actual GRBs, but like BATSE there are other non-astrophysical mechanisms which can cause count-rate increases in the detector and initiate a trigger. Within two weeks, the Detector number, Event type, and Trigger number are supplied by Sergei Golenetskii (Ioffe Institute) and are added to the table.

Please note that because of spacecraft telemetry downlink operations, about 1 in 10 triggers are downloaded twice. Hense, since the automated scripts are not smart enough to recognize this duplication, there will be a few duplicated entries in the table below. On rare occasions a human administrator will remove these duplicate entries.

NOTE: All files on this site have been checked due to a report of a high count rate anomoly at 33.280 seconds in some files. Many files have been corrected. You should check any files downloaded before February 28, 2002 for this anomoly. The Light Curves that were generated by the GCN/KONUS Notices were NOT affected.
